This is the best chili of all time--at least in the faculty category at the DW Elementary Chili Cookoff for two years now, thank you very much. Friday night I'm going for my third Chuy's gift card, thanks to this recipe that came from the ballpark where my Uncle Harrell played when he was little. Now it's our family recipe, despite the fact that no one in the family was responsible for its creation. I did, however, add the kidney beans and substituted the stewed tomatoes for some of the sauce.
So here it is, and I will add a picture this weekend after making it!
3 lbs. ground beef
1/2 stalk of celery, finely chopped
2 cups chopped onion
1 bell pepper, finely chopped
60 ounces tomato sauce (approx.)
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can kidney beans
1 1/2 Tbsp. garlic powder
1 1/2 Tbsp. cumin
1 1/2 Tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. ground red pepper (or to taste)
1 tsp. salt (taste)
2 tsp. pepper
Brown the beef, then add all the remaining ingredients. Bring it to a boil, and turn down the heat. Cook on low for 2-3 hours.
That looks like a fab recipe, I'm definitely gonna try it... but you said you have an uncle Harrell... please tell me he doesn't have the same last name as you, because I would die of laughter.
